Report: Leeds have just made their fifth summer signing

Leeds United have completed the signing of Lewis Bate, according to the Daily Mail.

The outlet claims the Whites have snapped up the Chelsea gem on a three-year deal, paying £1.5m for his services.

Leeds will announce Bate’s signing this morning, the report added.

The 18-year-old reportedly travelled to Leeds on Wednesday to finalise his move and complete his medical.

Bate’s deal apparently includes a sell-on clause, but no buyback clause.

The young midfielder – who is set to become Leeds’ fifth summer arrival – is highly rated at Chelsea.

Bate clocked up 20 appearances in last season’s Premier League 2 for the club’s Under-23 side.

Missing just four league games, he even captained Chelsea during a 4-1 win over Tottenham’s second string.

Bate had one year left on his contract at the London club but reportedly opted not to sign a new deal due to concerns over his first-team pathway.

The report adds that Leeds have convinced Bate – who’s set to start out in the Under-23s – that Elland Road is the best place for the next stage of his career.

This is because of the Whites’ track record of progressing players into the first team from their youth sides.

Leeds have signed left-back Junior Firpo, winger Jack Harrison, attacking midfielder Shaun McGurk and winger Amari Miller this summer.
