Report: Leeds have bid above club's asking price for 'complete' forward; decision in next few days

Leeds United are currently involved in a long-winded transfer saga involving Charles De Ketelaere.

The Whites have been in pursuit of the talented Club Brugge player in recent weeks.

However, Leeds have faced stern competition from Italian champions AC Milan for his services.

Today, it looks as though the Whites have been handed a boost in the De Ketelaere race.

There have been multiple reports suggesting the 21-year-old only wants to join Milan.

Indeed, Gazzetta dello Sport – via Sport Witness – mentioned this again on Friday morning.

De Ketelaere ‘has clearly told Bruges that he wants Milan, only Milan’, wrote the Italian outlet.

However, the same outlet reported later on that things aren’t going too well for the Rossoneri.

Gazzetta recalls that Brugge have an ‘important offer’ from Leeds, worth ‘at least’ €37m (£31.5m).

This is more than what the Belgians are asking for De Ketelaere, as the demand is said to be €35m (£30m).

Meanwhile, Milan reportedly they don’t want to go beyond €30m (£25.5m) plus €2m (£1.7m) in bonuses.

So the Italian side’s chances are now said to be ‘decreasing’.

And apparently, they’re now ‘trembling’ in wake of discussions stalling.

The next few days will ‘obviously be decisive’, as it’s ‘impossible for this story to last more than 3-4 days’.

Just as it looked as though Leeds were going to miss out on De Ketelaere, now it seems like they’re still in the race.

At the end of the day, Brugge will ultimately decide which deal they choose to accept – and they’ll want the higher bid.

And unless Milan up their bid, De Ketelaere may well end up have to choose between Leeds and staying at Brugge.

“15 goals” every season for Leeds?

De Ketelaere registered 18 goals and 10 assists from 49 appearances in all competitions for Brugge last term.

“His versatility is a huge asset,” Brugge icon Gert Verheyen told Het Nieuwsblad – via – of De Ketelaere.

“He is complete, with a mix of physical and technical qualities.

“If they play him as the striker for a whole season and he continues to play like this, he will score 15 goals.

“The amount that interested clubs will offer to buy him for will be unprecedented in Belgium. I really think that.”
