Leeds United defender Tom Pearce is reportedly set to complete a move to Championship club Barnsley.

According to Leeds Live, the 21-year-old is deemed surplus to requirements by Whites manager Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road.

It is understood that the left-back is “expecting” to complete a move to Yorkshire rivals Barnsley for a six-figure fee.

The report details that he will sign a three-year deal at Oakwell, which would see him follow in the footsteps this summer of Aapo Halme and Mallik Wilks this summer following their moves from Leeds to Barnsley.

Pearce is a product of the Leeds academy that has played 10 first-team games for the club, but has fallen down the pecking order under Bielsa.

The full-back spent the second half of last season out on loan with Scunthorpe United in League One and he’s now set for a new challenge at Barnsley.

TBR’s View:

Pearce’s path at Leeds certainly seems blocked and there is no way he’s forcing his way into contention at left-back given the current senior options.

The Whites have Barry Douglas, Ezgjan Alioski and Stuart Dallas all as possible options to play as the left-sided defender.

Meanwhile, academy graduate Leif Davis has also been drafted into senior contention and the 19-year-old left-back came off the bench against Bristol City at the weekend in the first game of the Championship season.

Pearce is a promising young defender that needs regular game time and a move to Barnsley looks a good fit.
