Report: Leeds could move for Wigan star Sean McGurk, if they enter January market
The Athletic’s Leeds United reporter Phil Hay has claimed that the Whites could go after Wigan Athletic talent Sean McGurk this month, if they are tempted to enter the January transfer market for incoming signings.
McGurk, 17, is one of Wigan’s most-exciting talents after shining in last season’s FA Youth Cup – scoring against Birmingham City and Manchester United, the latter of which came at Old Trafford during a 2-1 defeat.
Leeds already have a good connection with Wigan. They took advantage of Wigan’s struggling financial position in the summer to lure Joe Gelhardt to Elland Road – and the powerful star has since had a strong start in the reserves.
Now, McGurk could follow Gelhardt to Elland Road with Hay suggesting he could be targeted if Leeds decide to bring any players to Yorkshire over the course of the next few weeks.

TBR’s view – McGurk is a proper talent
He would be just another example of Victor Orta bringing in young players that eventually break into the senior side. Recently, Pascal Struijk, Leif Davis, Sam Greenwood, Ian Poveda and more have come in from other clubs.
They have all made an impact in the senior Leeds team – with Greenwood the latest to do so on Sunday. McGurk has the potential to add to that long list, though he has a long way to go given he is yet to make his senior debut.
