Leeds United and Leicester City could now jump into action with Barnsley said to be preparing a £2m bid for Nottingham Forest starlet, Brennan Johnson.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Leeds’ Yorkshire rivals Barnsley are readying a bid for Johnson.
Johnson, who won praise from David Beckham after helping Lincoln City to the play-off final, is highly-rated at the City Ground. However, there is a recognition that some players need to go this summer, and Johnson could be allowed to move on.

The Athletic do suggest that £2m is unlikely to interest Forest. However, news of Barnsley’s intentions could prompt either Leeds or Leicester to make a move for the youngster.
Johnson hit 11 goals last season for Lincoln. The 20-year-old has also been selected by Wales already.
He is the son of former Ipswich and Forest striker, David Johnson. Forest have a rich history of producing young players and selling them off for good profit.
The likes of Ben Brereton, and Jamal Lascelles, just two examples in the last few years.
Johnson an exciting talent
At the moment, that is what the forward is. Whether he goes on to surpass that, remains to be seen. However, he’ll argue that he needs the chance to be able to show it.
Forest face a difficult decision really. Do they try and cash in and hope for more in the form of a sell-on in the future. Or do they integrate Johnson now and hope he fires?
For Leeds and Leicester, it could be worth a punt either way. He’s not going to cost big bucks – to a PL side anyway – so if he doesn’t work out, then it’s no massive loss.
