Leeds United are looking to sign Josko Gvardiol with the belief that he will not stay at Elland Road for more than a couple of years, according to Croatian outlet 24 Sata.

The Whites reportedly had a bid of just over £19 million accepted by Dinamo Zagreb for the 18-year-old. However, it appears that the club have taken a slightly bizarre step to try and get a move across the line.

According to 24 Sata, Leeds have actually increased their offer to £20 million and included a 20 percent sell-on fee to his current club.

The report claims that the newly-promoted side’s move was taken to try and take RB Leipzig out of the running. It is also stated that Leeds do not expect to hold onto Gvardiol for too long should he arrive.

According to 24 Sata, Leeds are convinced that he will be on the move within two years. And they believe that they will be able to make a substantial profit on Gvardiol.

TBR View: Leeds fans may have mixed feelings about reported Gvardiol stance

Leeds still need to agree a deal that will see Gvardiol move to Elland Road. But it would certainly appear that they are in the driving seat for his signature.

And should they complete a deal, it may not be a big surprise if their supporters have mixed feelings about the club’s stance.

They will be incredibly excited about his potential. It is already a huge statement to spend £20 million on a teenager with only a handful of first-team games under his belt.

And a huge profit may make a considerable difference as Leeds look to establish themselves back in the Premier League in the coming years.

However, it will be disappointing to some that they are already braced for his exit before he has even joined.

Of course, Leeds supporters will be under few illusions about their current stature. They will know that if their players impress in the coming years, they may have to battle to keep some key figures away from the league’s biggest-spenders.

Nevertheless, it will still be slightly disappointing if they are resigned to selling Gvardiol – should they complete a deal – before he gets close to realising his full potential given the excitement surrounding the current links.
