Report: Leeds continuing to monitor Joao Pedro amid Newcastle talks

Leeds are continuing to monitor the situation surrounding Joao Pedro as Newcastle United remain in talks with Watford over the forward, according to a report from 90min.

The Magpies appear to be on pole position to sign Pedro. They have made a bid worth up to £30 million for the 20-year-old. But the Hornets want £35 million.

Eddie Howe’s men hope Watford back down and accept their offer. Joao Pedro is keen to make the move. And Newcastle have little intention of offering a lot more for the youngster.

What may not help the Magpies is that several other Premier League sides also want the Brazilian. 90min reports that Everton, Nottingham Forest and Wolves are also admirers.

And there is also still interest from Leeds.

Reports earlier in the window claimed that the Whites were one step away from agreeing a loan deal for Pedro.

Obviously, those reports were premature. But Leeds do appear to be keeping their options open when it comes to potentially signing another forward before the deadline.

It would be a big surprise if Leeds managed to snatch Pedro from Newcastle’s grasp. Clearly, they are going to have to break their club-record to sign the Watford man.

Pedro is an ‘incredible‘ talent. And Leeds have not spent the funds set aside for a potential move for Charles De Ketelaere.

However, Leeds have since got off to a flyer this season. And they do have an in-form forward in Rodrigo.

Andrea Radrizzani also spoke of being wary of blocking Joe Gelhardt’s pathway by signing another striker. Joao Pedro is the same age. So a £35 million deal would not do Gelhardt many favours.

Obviously, it is hard to rule anything out in the transfer window as the deadline looms. But surely, Leeds are major underdogs.
