According to Birmingham Live, Leeds United are close to signing Carlisle United youngster Liam McCarron. Wolves are also credited with an interest in McCarron. However, Leeds are set to win the race to his signature.
The teenager shone in League Two last season, catching the attentions of plenty of clubs higher up in the English football league pyramid. The 18-year-old made 16 league appearances for Carlisle.
The Whites have clearly seen enough to believe that McCarron has significant future potential. Marcelo Bielsa is renowned for his ability to help young players mature and develop. The chance to work with the Argentine coach should be an exciting proposition for McCarron.

The Yorkshire club certainly need to bolster their squad this summer. Bielsa’s side fell agonisingly short of promotion last time out, in part because his squad didn’t have the strength in depth needed to maintain a promotion push. McCarron may not be ready to feature regularly for the Leeds first team. However, he could certainly provide Bielsa with an extra option to consider.
Signing McCarron would also be a move made with the future in mind. The Carlisle man could develop into a fine player for Leeds. What’s more, the fact he’ll likely only cost the Yorkshire club around £250,000 – according to Birmingham Live – makes this a cost effective purchase too.
