French website Le Quotidien Du Foot have claimed that Leeds United are rivalling Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Leicester City for FC Metz striker Habib Diallo this summer, but Marcelo Bielsa’s side will only look to sign him on one condition.
Diallo, 24, has been in excellent form for Metz during the 2019-20 campaign – scoring 12 goals in 26 Ligue 1 appearances. His form is even more impressive, given Metz have only managed 27 league goals for the entire campaign.
The report claims that Chelsea wanted to sign the two-time Senegal international in the January transfer window but Diallo wanted to see out the 2019-20 campaign with Metz. But this summer he is likely to leave, with £18million enough to sign him.
Leeds are likely to be after a striker given Patrick Bamford’s inconsistent form this season, while the Covid-19 pandemic has halted any progress January recruit Jean-Kevin Augustin was looking to make.
The only condition for Leeds, is that they will pursue Diallo if they gain promotion.
TBR’s view – Would Diallo be the kind of striker Bielsa wants?
Bielsa is renowned for placing his faith in an under-fire Bamford but it is clear why. The former Chelsea and Nottingham Forest star is excellent at linking the play between the midfield and the attack, and bringing others into play.
He also has a nasty streak up front, and is more than willing to rough up his centre-back opponents. Bamford’s role is underrated, but not to Bielsa. Can Diallo do that? The African ace is more renowned for his electrifying speed.
But he has laid on three assists as well as he goals this season, proving he has a creative edge.
