Leeds United have become the latest team to register an interest in Sporting midfielder Joao Palhinha, according to a report from Portuguese outlet O Jogo.

O Jogo has suggested that Palhinha could be on the way out of Sporting this summer. The 25-year-old made 27 league appearances on loan at Braga last term, while he also featured seven times in the Europa League.

And it appears that he could soon be on the move once again – this time on a permanent basis.

O Jogo has suggested that Leeds have asked about Palhinha’s availability. And it is claimed that any offer of around £13.5 million will be enough to tempt Sporting into a permanent sale.

TBR View: Palhinha could be a fantastic signing for Leeds

Palhinha appears to make a lot of sense as a potential Leeds United target. He is versatile, capable of playing in holding midfield or at centre-back.

He is much taller than Kalvin Phillips, and wins plenty of aerial duels. But he is also good in possession and combative. He is not afraid to attempt long passes, but seems to know when to keep it simple or hold his position.

And as he will reportedly cost a reasonable amount, it looks to have the potential to be a shrewd piece of business from the Whites should they decide to make a move.
