Leeds United are just £8 million away from signing Ryan Kent from Rangers, due to a release clause in his contract, the Athletic say.
Release clause
Leeds have been pursuing Kent for some time now, and their best offer is said to have been tabled at £12 million to date.
So far Rangers have fended off Leeds’ interest, as they are determined to keep hold of their most dynamic winger, who was called ‘phenomenal’ by Kris Boyd on Sky earlier this year.
However, they could be powerless to resist if Leeds do up their offer.
Deal to be done?
The Athletic worryingly claim that Kent has a £20 million release clause in his contract, which may offer Leeds encouragement that a deal could be done.
Now, it does remain to be seen whether the Whites would be willing to stretch their budget so far to land the 24-year-old.

But Marcelo Bielsa is a huge admirer of Kent, and the Athletic say that he often becomes ‘fixated’ on players who he has a long-term interest in.
Leeds are still yet to sign a winger this summer, so they could still be on the hunt for a new attacker.
And it will be very interesting to see whether Leeds do make another push to sign Kent, with the transfer window now edging towards a close.
