Leeds United, Wolves, and Burnley are all expected to make a move for Reading midfielder, John Swift, who is nearing the end of his contract with the Championship side.

According to the Sheffield Star, the Premier League trio are expected to make their move for Swift, despite long-standing interest from Sheffield United.

Swift has been in fine form for Reading this season. He’s already scored eight times, and contributed another six assists in the process. However, he’s yet to sign fresh terms with the Royals. A new deal, it seems, is very unlikely.

January could be a testing time for Reading, then. The club must decide whether to cash-in on their star man, or keep him until the end of the season and lose him for nothing.

Formerly of Chelsea, Swift has excelled since moving to the Madejski.

Admiring glances from the Premier League are nothing new either. Indeed, Leeds have already shown interest in Swift before, and Marcelo Bielsa has previously made his feelings known on the midfielder.

Wolves and Burnley, meanwhile, will be hoping the offer of regular first-team football could sway Swift in their direction.

TBR’s View: John Swift to Leeds looks a perfect match

Leeds need a midfielder at the moment. They need one in January, as they simply can’t go the entire season without adding to that area of the pitch.

On paper, Swift seems perfect. He’ll be coming into his prime years and at Championship level anyway, he is more than proven.

The Premier League is, of course, a big step up in class. But Swift has shown enough ability to suggest it won’t be an issue for him to make that step.

And if Leeds, Wolves, or Burnley can snap Swift up at a bargain price, then it just makes a January deal look even more sensible.
