Report: Leeds and Southampton, want 16-goal international striker
Leeds United are in the mix with several Premier League clubs and Sevilla to complete the signing of Blackburn striker Ben Brereton Diaz, according to Eurosport.
The Whites could be in the market for a striker when the January transfer window opens. Patrick Bamford has been a sore loss this season and they’ve struggled for goals.
Leeds aren’t alone in the race to sign the prolific striker though. Southampton, Burnley and Brighton are also monitoring his progress in the Championship.
Brereton Diaz has come of age during 2021/22. The 22-year-old has found the net 16 times for Rovers and has grown as a player since earning his first call-up for Chile back in June.
It seems unlikely that his current club will be able to keep hold of him for much longer. Several Premier League clubs have sent scouts to watch him this season amid his blistering form.
Brereton Diaz is out of contract in the summer. Blackburn do have the option for another year though and triggering though would ensure a transfer fee.
Leeds face Crystal Palace tonight at Elland Road and they are in desperate need of a victory.
After a solid maiden campaign in the Premier League last season, Marcelo Bielsa’s men have encountered a bit of second season syndrome this time around.
Exciting: Brereton Diaz could be ideal for Leeds
The Whites would certainly welcome another striker into their ranks as they look to fire themselves to safety. In Brereton Diaz, they would be adding a player bang in form.
He has taken some time to get up to speed at Ewood Park. This season, however, he has really silenced his critics, proving himself as one of the most feared marksmen.
Bamford returned to action for the under-23s last night and that was a positive sign. Another striker is a must though and Brereton Diaz would be a sound investment for the future.
