Report: Leeds 22-year-old is already ‘packing his bags’, loan switch expected

Rafa Mujica has endured a difficult time at Leeds United and his loan spell with second-tier Spanish side Real Oviedo has hardly been much better. Now, La Voz de Asturias claim he is to swap Oviedo for Las Palmas – and has already ‘packed his bags’.

Mujica, 22, joined Leeds from Barcelona’s B-team in the summer of 2019 but has since spent the past 18 months on loan to three different clubs. Initially, he joined Extremadura for the first half of the 2019-20 season – but failed to score in eight goals.

Then, in January 2020, Mujica tried his luck with Villarreal’s B-team and scored four goals in seven games before the pandemic hit. Now, he is on loan at Oviedo but has struggled – managing just 50 minutes of league action spread across four appearances.

Mujica is clearly frustrated and it now appears that he is on the move again, a fourth loan in two seasons. This time, he is joining Las Palmas – a club that not long ago were in the top tier of Spanish football. They are currently in the second tier.

TBR’s view – Mujica’s Leeds future

Having already ‘packed his bags’ and will join Las Palmas in the ‘next few hours’, Mujica is clearly focused on impressing for Las Palmas during the second half of the season. But does he stand a chance of getting any game time for Leeds?

Well, Mujica – once called up by Spain’s Under-19 sides – has 18 months left on his contract and did play in the 2019 pre-season. But like Kun Temenuzhkov, Alex Machuca and other Under-23 imports, it looks unlikely he will play under Marcelo Bielsa.
