Report: Lazio make contact with Leeds transfer window target whose £55k-a-week deal with PL rival's just ended
Leeds United may face a battle if they hope to sign Patrick van Aanholt this summer, with Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb reporting that Lazio now want the left-back in the transfer window.
Van Aanholt is now a free agent after leaving Crystal Palace after the end of his £55,000-a-week contract. His release comes after making well over 200 Premier League appearances during his career.
It was claimed by the Sunday Mirror (14/3; page 69) back in March that Leeds want van Aanholt. The report noted that the Whites were looking at the Dutchman on a possible free transfer.
It remains to be seen if Marcelo Bielsa’s men make a move. But if they do still want the 30-year-old, they may be running out of time to get something done.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Lazio now want van Aanholt. In fact, it is suggested that the Biancocelesti have made contact with his representatives.
Leeds’ plans yet to become apparent, but van Aanholt would be a shrewd addition in the transfer window
Leeds appear to have a left-back target in mind. According to Leeds Live, the Whites are quite far down the road with an unnamed option.
Without knowing who that is, it can surely be argued that van Aanholt would be a shrewd signing for the Whites.
He is not a young player. And he is not particularly versatile, like so many of Bielsa’s squad are.
But he is available on a free transfer. And he would bring a wealth of experience with him.
So it would seem a blow to some if Lazio, or another side, won the race.
The Serie A outfit look to be stepping up their interest in the near future – judging by the latest reports.
So it may not be too long until we get a better idea of just how interested Leeds actually are.
