Everton have reportedly been joined in the race to sign Thomas Meunier by Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish Champions League regulars will bid goodbye to veteran full-back Juanfran this summer and are in need of fresh impetus on the right side of their defence.
And Paris Saint-Germain defender Meunier apparently fits the bill according to Le10 Sport.
Meunier has been with the French giants since 2016 after joining from Club Brugge.
The Belgium international – who made the World Cup semi-finals with his country last summer – has made 100 appearances for his club and will be out of contract next summer.
Everton have been strongly linked with a move for Meunier (GFFN), but they could now face real competition for the 27-year-old.
Everton have huge need to acquire a quality right-back this summer, with Seamus Coleman a shadow of his former self.
The Republic of Ireland international hasn’t quite been the same since his awful leg break in 2017, and it could be time for Marco Silva to think about a long-term replacement for the 30-year-old.
Meunier is a versatile player who has excellent physical qualities which could make him a hit in the Premier League.
Atletico boast Champions League football and the Wanda Metropolitano, but perhaps the player will see Goodison Park as an interesting new challenge.
