Report: Klopp now thinks 'sensational' player Liverpool sold for just £6.5m could be a big threat in the PL
Jurgen Klopp remains a fan of Taiwo Awoniyi, who he sold at Liverpool but is set to return to the Premier League.
The Telegraph report that the striker is nearing a move to newly promoted Nottingham Forest as they look to put together a squad capable of thriving in the top flight.
Liverpool sold Awoniyi to Union Berlin last summer for £6.5 million and he went on to have a hugely successful 2021/22.
He netted 15 Bundesliga goals last term, which has convinced Forest to make him the man charged with scoring the goals to keep them up.
Klopp a fan of Awoniyi
He spent the previous two campaigns on loan in Germany as well.
First with Mainz, who Klopp used to manage, scoring just once in 12 games for but his quality drew praise from boss Achim Beierlorzer who called him ‘sensational’ in Kicker.
His loan campaign in Berlin saw him net five league goals, but it was last term where he really came to life and he has earned his return to England.
And the same report says that Klopp remains a huge admirer and believes he can make an impact in English football.
Last year, Awoniyi admitted that Liverpool are a great club but he had to move on to pastures new.
That is because he needed stability in his career after a work permit obstacle prevented him from playing in the Premier League.
He had embarked on seven different loan spells before permanently leaving Liverpool but now he is back and he can show Klopp up close what he can do next season.
