Juventus have become the latest club to show an interest in Jannik Vestergaard, with Tuttomercatoweb reporting that Spurs are preparing an offer for the Southampton star.
Vestergaard has had an interesting time on the south coast. The Saints have not always had the best record when parting with larger fees for signings over the last few years.
And it appeared that the Dane was destined to prove another underwhelming addition. However, in the last year or so, the 28-year-old appears to have turned his fortunes around considerably.
And he is now attracting plenty of high-profile interest.
The Daily Express reported earlier this month that Tottenham want the £18 million-rated centre-back.
Of course, any interest is potentially up in the air right now following Jose Mourinho’s departure this week. But reports from Italy have suggested that Spurs do indeed remain in the running.
In fact, Tuttomercatoweb has claimed that Tottenham are preparing a bid. But Juve have apparently joined the race, with Roma also interested.
TBR View: Juventus interest may help convince Spurs about making bid
Despite Vestergaard’s improvement, a move for the defender could definitely be viewed as a gamble for Tottenham.
Some fans were hugely impressed by his performance against Spurs on Wednesday. But others seemed not as convinced that he would be enough of an upgrade on what the club already has.
Having said that, seeing Juventus enter the race may have an impact on Tottenham. It shows that they are not the only high-profile side who believe Vestergaard could potentially take his game to the next level.
