A report in Germany has highlighted why Liverpool’s transfer pursuit for Timo Werner may have been impacted by the current global health crisis.
Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for the RB Leipzig striker in the next transfer window.
As reported by several sources, including the Daily Express, Liverpool are very keen on a deal for the player who currently has a €60 million (£52m) release clause active in his contract.
However, SportBild is reporting a potential stumbling block in any Liverpool transfer pursuit of the German striker.
The report claims that Klopp’s ‘desire to sign Werner is greater than ever’. However, the Liverpool boss is reportedly a fan of meeting his transfer targets before bringing them to Anfield. It allows him a chance to assess their character and to enlighten them on his ideas for their futures at Liverpool.

Under the current situation, Klopp has not been able to arrange such a meeting with Werner due to the global travel restrictions and would be unlikely to do so anytime soon.
Of course, there are ways around that, with Liverpool already using technology to do group yoga sessions with the team, finding a way for Klopp to go face-to-face with Werner is not impossible.
However, Leipzig and Liverpool’s season is still not over, with the German side still in the race for the Champions League and the Bundesliga. Discussing a potential transfer with another manager would not be best practice from Werner or for Leipzig at this point.
It seems Klopp and Liverpool remain very keen on the signing of Werner. But figuring out how to accommodate Klopp’s traditional methods when it comes to signing a player may pose a tricky and delicate solution.
