Report: Jurgen Klopp has signed Liverpool contract extension
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has signed a contract extension at Anfield, according to The Athletic.
The Reds manager has reportedly penned fresh terms until the summer of 2026.
Klopp’s contract was set to expire in two years’ time.
But these reports of a two-year extension will be music to the Liverpool fanbase’s ears.
He had previously suggested he could step down at the end of his contract.
Klopp also said he’d be taking a sabbatical at some point in his career.
“The sabbatical will definitely happen, definitely,” the German declared in an interview with BILD in March 2021, via Marca.
“If we don’t win any more Premier League games and the thinking of the owners’ changes, I’ll take a year off, no ifs and buts.
“This is clearly an agreement with my family, and probably with my family doctor as well, one thing is clear: when Liverpool ends, there will definitely be a year off, nobody needs to call, no mater who tries, it’s a one-year break.”
However, The Athletic now reports that Klopp been re-energised by his side’s chase for the quadruple this season.
Indeed, rumours about Liverpool’s hopes of their manager penning fresh terms had been circulating on Thursday.
The Liverpool boss recently said that he would base a decision on remaining with the Anfield outfit on whether he had the energy for the job.
Mike Gordon, the president of Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group, was in attendance on Wednesday night as Klopp’s men beat Villarreal 2-0 in their Champions League semi-final first leg.
It is thought he was there to help progress a new deal with Klopp, whose agent Marc Kosicke was also at Anfield, a few seats away from Gordon.
Liverpool have already won the Carabao Cup this season.
They also sit second in the Premier League, are in the FA Cup final and have a 2-0 advantage in the Champions League semi-final first-leg.
