The Daily Mail have claimed that Jose Mourinho and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in luring Dean Henderson to north London this summer as the England goalkeeper continues to shine on loan at Sheffield United, from Manchester United.
Henderson, 22, is in his second season at Sheffield United under Chris Wilder – having helped the Blades gain promotion from the Championship last term. He kept 21 clean sheets in 46 games for Wilder’s side, conceding only 41 goals.
This season, he has continued his stunning form. He has conceded just 21 goals in 25 Premier League outings, and despite Sheffield United only just being promoted – Henderson sits joint top of the clean sheet rankings with nine, level with Alisson.
Now, reports claim that Tottenham are keen on signing Henderson which would see Mourinho raid former side United. However, Paris Saint-Germain have joined the race to land Henderson, while Chelsea and Sheffield United are also keen.
TBR’s view – Which move is best for Henderson?
Henderson has spoken in the past about becoming United’s number one and if David De Gea does eventually leave, he would be a top replacement. But De Gea’s form has dipped and he is no longer coveted by Real Madrid, like he once was.
Kepa has struggled at Chelsea and Henderson would arguably replace the Spaniard, while Hugo Lloris is now 33 and Mourinho is likely to be after a long-term replacement. If Sheffield United can tempt Henderson, then surely he may want to continue.
Henderson is now of the ability and experience where he needs to be a number one, at a club competing in European football. At Spurs, United, PSG and even Sheffield United, that is possible next season. He has some thinking to do.
