Report: Jose Mourinho joins Tottenham and Arsenal in race to sign £82k-a-week Euro 2020 goalscorer
Italian website FCInterNews claims Jose Mourinho wants to sign Ivan Perisic. It is hardly a surprise, given Mourinho’s move to try and get him at Manchester United. Tottenham and Arsenal are reportedly pursuing Perisic, and Mourinho has now thrown his hat into the ring for the Croatian.
Perisic, 32, has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Inter Milan this summer. That is, despite re-establishing himself at Inter despite going on loan to Bayern Munich during 2019-20. He played 38 times for Inter last season, but his future remains in doubt and Simone Inzaghi could cash in.
Recently, Fussball Transfers claimed that Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United are all weighing up moves for Perisic. But the latest report claims that Mourinho now wants the £82k-a-week wide man at Roma this summer. It is unclear how much Inter would charge for Perisic.
Perisic – a good signing for Tottenham or Arsenal, or best to finally sign for Mourinho?
Tottenham need to replace Gareth Bale who is likely to return to Real Madrid, while Erik Lamela could also be sold due to his contract situation. Arsenal do have options on the flanks but Willian could be sold after a poor first season, and Nicolas Pepe is indifferent at best.
So, Perisic would clearly get plenty of game time at either club – and improve the North London sides. But at 32, he might be entering the latter stages of his career. The slower pace of Serie A may help Perisic, who scored two goals in three games at Euro 2020. Roma is his best move.
