Tottenham Hotspur fans would have been forgiven for having concerns about their decision to sign Jack Clarke last summer after he endured a tough season last year.

He failed to make a single league start after securing two Championship loan spells. And he goes into this international break still awaiting his first-team debut for Spurs.

But, in light of a report from Football London, perhaps it should not be a surprise if his senior bow for Tottenham is not as far away as some supporters may think.

Football London reports that Spurs have rejected a number of loan offers for Clarke in the window. Of course, it is still possible that the winger could secure a temporary move away in the coming days.

However, the report has added that Jose Mourinho has been hugely impressed by Clarke over the summer. And it is suggested that the 19-year-old could potentially stick around, at least until January, so he can continue to work alongside the likes of Gareth Bale and Harry Kane.

TBR View: Clarke could be a revelation for Spurs if Mourinho gets him back on track

Clarke will know that he potentially has lots of work to do before he forces his way up the pecking order. But there is no reason why he cannot contribute to Tottenham’s fortunes this season if his confidence is back.

The wide-man was incredible to watch when he burst onto the scene at Leeds United. And Tottenham rejecting loan offers for him would surely hint that they feel that he may be getting back to that sort of level.

It will still be a daunting task for Clarke to try and break into Mourinho’s plans. But if he does earn a chance this season, he could really be a wildcard in what is already looking to be a devastating forward line.
