Report: Jose Mourinho and two CL clubs now keen to sign 'incredible' £110,000-a-week Arsenal defender
According to CalcioMercato.it, Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin is a wanted man this summer with Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma and two other Champions League clubs from Italy keen to sign him.
The Spaniard has been a part of Arsenal for over a decade now. He was the Gunners’ first-choice right back as well until the end of last season, but his willingness to leave followed by Takehiro Tomiyasu’s arrival opened the exit door for him.
Bellerin joined Real Betis on loan last year and he has had an excellent campaign. He even helped them win the Copa del Rey, assisting a goal in the final of the competition.
Betis would love to re-sign him, but it looks like the Spaniards are set to face some serious competition.
Jose Mourinho wants to sign Hector Bellerin from Arsenal
After a torrid spell at Tottenham, Mourinho’s back to doing what he does best – win trophies. The Special One helped Roma win the Conference League last month, and he’s now looking to make them a force in the Serie A.
After Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ failed loan spell in the second half of last campaign, Mourinho needs another right-back. Roma have been linked with plenty of names, and Bellerin is the latest one reportedly on the Giallorossi boss’ wish list.
The report claims that Betis are yet to find an agreement with Arsenal to sign Bellerin on a permanent deal. That has opened the door for other clubs to come in, and Roma, along with two other top Italian clubs, are keen.
Juventus and Inter Milan are the other two clubs and both of them can offer £110,000-a-week Bellerin something that Arsenal can’t – Champions League football next season.
Bellerin, branded as ‘incredible’ by Mikel Arteta, is in the prime of his career. The Spaniard is a fantastic full-back, but he just lost confidence at Arsenal following a terrible knee injury when Unai Emery was at the helm.
Now, thanks to a successful season at Betis, he is close to returning to his best. He can be a top player for multiple clubs, but Tomiyasu’s presence means he won’t get a chance at Arsenal next season.
A move to Roma, Juventus or Inter are all fantastic opportunities for Bellerin, but he may well stay at Betis, a club he clearly loves. However, it will be interesting to if the Spanish outfit can agree a fee with Arsenal.
If Bellerin does leave the Gunners this summer, his 11-year spell as an Arsenal player will come to an end.
