Aston Villa loanee Anwar El Ghazi could be on the move in the summer. According to Greek media outlet SDNA, super-agent Jorge Mendes has ‘proposed’ the signing of El Ghazi to Olympiakos.
El Ghazi still has one more game for Aston Villa before his loan expires. He is expected to start for Dean Smith’s side in the play-off final against Derby County.
If Aston Villa win promotion, they could try to re-sign El Ghazi. The 24-year-old has weighed in with five goals and six assists since his summer loan move from Lille.
And under the stewardship of Smith, he looks like a new player. The resurgent winger is finally showing his top form in claret and blue.
But Aston Villa could face a battle to bring El Ghazi back to the West Midlands. Olympiakos might be his next destination as he weighs up his summer options.
A return to Lille seems unlikely and it is in the best interests of all parties if he leaves permanently. But perhaps the twice-capped Netherlands winger would fancy a return to Aston Villa.
At Villa Park, El Ghazi is settled and playing some good football. Moving to Olympiakos would give him the chance to compete for silverware and play Champions League football.
But Aston Villa could offer him a familiar environment and the chance to kick on and live up to his early-career hype.
