Jesse Lingard may be on the move this summer amid reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur, but The Sun has suggested that he could still have the option in his contract taken up by Manchester United.

Lingard’s future appears to have a question mark hanging over it in recent times. He was left out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad for their opening Premier League game.

The Sun notes that he is a player United would consider offloading. Nevertheless, the report claims that they are weighing up taking the option in his contract with his current deal expiring next summer.

The Sun suggests that they are looking to ensure that his value remains at the £25 million mark.

The report may well attract the interest of Jose Mourinho and Tottenham.

The Times reported this week that they are one of the sides keen on signing the 27-year-old. And interestingly, it was claimed that he would be interested in speaking to Spurs.

It will be interesting to see if Manchester United triggering the option has any impact on Tottenham’s plans.

They would have surely expected the midfielder to command a substantial fee. But perhaps they may have hoped that his expiring contract may have done them a favour.

Of course, United may also be taking something of a gamble if they have little interest in keeping Lingard. They may be wary of putting off any admirers by ensuring that his value remains around £25 million.
