Tottenham Hotspur have recently said goodbye to Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen. The 33-year-old confirmed he will be leaving Tottenham when his contract expires at the end of this month and most Spurs fans are wishing their long-serving defender all the best in his next endeavour.
Of course, they would be less understanding if he was to join a Premier League rival. That scenario became a real possibility earlier this month, as The Telegraph reported that Manchester City were considering making a move for the player.
Tottenham fans would undoubtedly have felt disappointed if Vertonghen jumped ship to The Etihad. However, according to reports in Belgium, Spurs have nothing to worry about.

Voetbal24 claim that Vertonghen will reject any approach from City, or indeed any other Premier League club.
Vertonghen has his eyes firmly set on Italy and despite apparent interest from Napoli, Inter, and Roma, it is Fiorentina where the Belgian is hoping to end up.
It is believed Vertonghen is a fan of the city of Florence and the project with La Viola might very well suit him.
A report from The Times last month claimed that Vertonghen’s wages were proving a stumbling block for Fiorentina but hopefully, those issues can be ironed out and the Belgian can get the move it appears he wants.
Tottenham fans will just be glad he is not being tempted by a move to City this summer.
