Leicester City star James Maddison could be named in the England squad next week. According to The Daily Mail, England assistant Steve Holland was present to watch Leicester’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

And Maddison caught Holland’s eye with his performance. The ex-Coventry and Leicester playmaker ran the show on Sunday afternoon and nearly inspired Leicester to victory against the Blues.

Holland has returned positive reports about Maddison in a meeting with Gareth Southgate. England face Bulgaria and Kosovo in early September with Southgate due to name his squad next week.

Maddison could return to the England squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers. The England U21 starlet has been named in one senior squad but he did not make his debut. However, his recent performances have got the England hierarchy seriously pondering a Three Lions call-up.

TBR’s view

It is time to integrate Maddison into the England team. Over the last season, he has shown that he has the ability to perform at the top level consistently in the Premier League. His next career step is to prove himself on the international stage.

The technically-gifted 22-year-old can create chances and score goals. He could be the missing link for England as Southgate goes in search of Euro 2020 glory.
