Report: James Garner was absolutely furious with £25k-a-week Everton man in the first-half yesterday

It was a bad night for Everton and Frank Lampard, as his heavily rotated side were easily cast aside by Bournemouth.

The Toffees fell to a disappointing 4-1 defeat on the south coast, giving Lampard plenty to think about before Saturday’s repeat fixture.

A report from the Liverpool Echo suggested the frustration was both on and off the pitch for Everton.

Lampard made 11 changes to the starting line-up that lost to Leicester, but few players covered themselves in glory.

Injuries to Amadou Onana, Idrissa Gueye and Dominic Calvert-Lewin opened the door for several Everton players.

However, it was a disjointed performance, which is unsurprising given how many changes were made.

Lampard also switched from his normal back four to a three-at-the-back system to give his fringe players an opportunity.

It was a calamitous performance from Everton’s centre-backs who flattered to deceive against a rotated Bournemouth side.

Liverpool Echo’s report suggests that James Garner was absolutely furious with Mason Holgate in the first half.

It was just one poor moment from the visitors that saw Everton dumped out of the cup last night.

Garner was furious with Holgate yesterday

The report suggests that Garner was ‘flapping his arms in exasperation’ at Holgate yesterday.

The £25,000-a-week defender failed to control a square pass in the first-half that then ran out of play for a throw-in.

Things went from bad to worse for Holgate, after his slip at the start of the second half eventually led to Bournemouth’s second goal.

He was substituted moments later, although Lampard admitted this was in part due to a knock on his knee.

“Mason had a small issue with his knee at half-time, and I was aware of that,” Lampard said.

“He seemed to hobble a bit after a pass before the second goal and then the goal happened.

“I was looking at possible changes early in the second half anyway, so it made sense to take Mason off.”

Garner has been one of the players Lampard has used most off the bench this season.

Lampard has been ‘very impressed’ with him since arriving from Manchester United.

He could start at the weekend depending on the fitness of Onana and Gueye.

However, Garner was furious with Holgate yesterday, and the centre-back’s future at the club may now be discussed again.

Everton may listen to offers for Holgate again in January after he was linked with West Ham in the summer.

Everton fans will be hoping it’s a completely different performance from last night in their final match before the World Cup.
