Report: Jacob Murphy expected to sign new Newcastle deal amid Rangers links
Steven Gerrard may be set for disappointment amid his interest in bringing Jacob Murphy to Ibrox, with the Chronicle reporting that the Rangers target is expected to sign a new contract with Newcastle United.
Murphy’s future is currently up in the air. His current deal with the Magpies expires at the end of the campaign. And it appears that plenty of sides are monitoring his situation.
According to the Chronicle, Rangers were joined by the likes of Watford, Burnley and Southampton in the running for the 26-year-old.
But the report claims that he is now expected to sign a new deal on Tyneside. It is noted however, that his admirers are likely to be waiting in the wings should the Magpies fail to agree terms.
It would be a boost for Newcastle to keep Murphy – who earns £25,000-a-week, according to Spotrac. He is arguably enjoying his best season yet at St James’ Park.
Murphy has scored twice and provided two assists in the Premier League. He scored the crucial equaliser in the recent win over Burnley that sparked Newcastle’s recent run of taking seven points from their last three games.
There are some attractive propositions on the table. Rangers could be in the Champions League next year after winning the Scottish Premiership.
Watford are making their return to the Premier League. But it appears that they will have to look elsewhere if they hope to bolster their wide options this summer.
