Sunderland manager Jack Ross wants two players to replace Lee Cattermole. Earlier this summer, Cattermole left Sunderland by mutual consent and he leaves a void in central midfield.
According to The Northern Echo, Ross wants to sign Walsall midfielder George Dobson and give Dylan McGeouch more chances. Rather than let McGeouch go, he is set for more opportunities.
McGeouch had a tough first season in England after his move down south from Hibernian. He showed glimpses of his talent but was kept out of the team by Cattermole and injuries.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a return to Scotland to join Aberdeen. But after the Dons signed Funso Ojo, McGeouch is no longer a priority. He will instead stay at Sunderland.

Ross thinks McGeouch can play a key role next season but retains his interest in Dobson. The 21-year-old is the captain of Walsall and he has been left out of pre-season as he sorts his future out.
Sunderland’s potential promotion-winning midfield
Dobson would be an excellent capture as he offers the perfect blend of youth and experience. At such a young age, he has been captaining Walsall after leaving West Ham.
With Dobson, McGeouch, Elliot Embleton, Ethan Robson, Max Power and Luke O’Nien, Ross has several exciting options in central midfield. These players could help Sunderland’s 2019/20 promotion bid.
