Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish has reportedly been earmarked as a potential signing by Manchester City.
According to the Daily Star, the 25-year-old is one of two Villa stars Pep Guardiola’s side are looking to bring in – the other being former player Douglas Luiz.
Grealish has arguably been one of the Premier League’s best players in 2020/21 so far, contributing four goals and six assists in seven games in the competition.
The England international has been outstanding, helping Villa reach the dizzy heights of sixth.
His level has caught the attention of City, and the Star say he is now their main focus.
Guardiola is also apparently considering a swoop for Luiz, who left the Etihad for Villa Park in 2019.
City are said to have a buyback clause over the Brazilian, worth £25 million.
TBR’s View – Grealish won’t go, Luiz a concern
One would imagine it’d be very very unlikely for Grealish to depart Villa mid-season, especially since he’s trying to stake his claim to be a starter for England at the European Championships next summer.
He’s the main man for Villa and will play every minute. He’s also just recently signed a new deal, making this a potential non-starter for City.
Luiz, though, is a bit of a concern.
When he joined Villa, one got the feeling Guardiola didn’t really want to let him go, but had little choice due to a work permit issue.
Villa will really hope City don’t poach one of their best players.
