Report: Italian giants want ultra-consistent West Ham player who Graeme Souness really rates
According to Italian news outlet, Milanpress, AC Milan want to bring West Ham star Jarrod Bowen to Italy.
Bowen has been one of West Ham’s best players this season, scoring 16 goals and providing 9 assists in all competitions.
It’s this form that has led Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness to be so effusive in his praise for him.
“He’s a 7 or 8 every week, he’s the sort of player you win the league (titles) with”
It’s been a quick and explosive rise up the football pyramid for the man from Leominster. Having started at non-league Hereford, Bowen plyed his trade with Championship Hull for many seasons before finally getting his chance with West Ham.
But with West Ham’s Champions League hopes hanging by a knife-edge after poor performances in both the League and Europe, AC Milan may just provide the route to the top of football that Bowen has been looking for.
A deal that would suit both Bowen and Milan
Milan are on the verge of finally winning the Serie A again after a long period of decline. They have a young squad with a lot of talent scattered throughout it, with the likes of Fiyako Tomori and Rafael Leao standing out particularly.
What they are lacking however, according to Milanpress, is a specialist right midfielder. Enter Jarrod Bowen.
AC will without a doubt be in the Champions League next season and if they are to challenge properly in Europe they will need a complete squad.
Luckily for AC Milan, with West Ham’s season starting to falter, it looks like they will be able to offer Jarrod Bowen the European football that the east enders cannot.
And if they can snag him for the reported €30 million it will be the bargain of the summer.
Is the deal likely?
Not for €30 million. If West Ham’s stance on Declan Rice is anything to go by, they are not in the market to sell their best players.
It may, however, become more tricky for them if they cannot secure European football for next season.
The only way for West Ham to get into the Champions League this season is a Europa League win.
They are currently on for a Europa Conference League place 7th place finish in the league, which although is a form of European competition, it is not quite as reputuatable as the Champions League or the Europa League.
If West Ham want to keep a player of Bowen’s talent happy, their current finish will be the bare minimum. If they do somehow contrive to finish 8th or lower, they may be in bigger trouble.
Bowen would likely fetch a high price when you consider the interest of teams like Liverpool and his recent form, but if there is no European football on offer he may start to push for a move and that is when the price begins to drop.
It will all depend on Moyes’ sides end to the season.
