Report: Italian clubs join Celtic in race for £5m-rated winger, 18 goals in 2020-21
The Daily Record claim that Celtic are in the race to sign HNK Gorica wide man Kristijan Lovric. The one-time Croatia international has been in stunning form over the last 12 months, after a wonderful 2020-21 campaign. But Celtic are not alone in their pursuit – facing competition from Italy.
Lovric, 25, had a hand in 25 goals during 32 appearances in 2020-21 – scoring 18 goals and creating seven more. Little surprise then, that bigger European sides have flocked to his signature. The winger has entered the final 12 months of his deal – and Celtic are one of a number of clubs keen.
The Record report that Croatian media saw Hellas Verona are keen on Lovric, a club that recently sold Liam Henderson to Empoli. The report also states Celtic are keen on the player – with Gorica slapping a £5million price tag on his head. Celtic have already got Liel Abada this summer.
Lovric would be a brilliant signing for Celtic, especially at £5m
While there were doubts over the addition of Abada given he is just 19 – and had only played in Israel – Lovric is one to get excited about. The Croatian league is getting better and better, and imports to Scotland have worked. Look at Borna Barisic, for example. His form has seen him play for Croatia.
So, much more experienced than Abada and only slightly more expensive at £5million – Lovric would be an ideal addition. Do Celtic need another addition out wide? With James Forrest and Mikey Johnstone the only other options and Maryan Shved leaving, they could do with Lovric.
