Italian outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi have claimed that Serie A side Lazio want to sign two Premier League defenders this summer, in Arsenal’s Calum Chambers and Newcastle skipper Jamaal Lascelles.
Simone Inzaghi has identified that his side needs a central defender this summer, and he wants to lure an Englishman to Italian football. Both Lascelles and Chambers have proven they are Premier League standard.
Despite Fulham’s relegation, Chambers impressed at the west London club on loan last season. A three-time England international, Chambers has already clocked up 125 appearances in England’s top tier throughout his career.
At just 24 years of age, he still has plenty of years left at the top level – as does Newcastle skipper Lascelles. The 25-year-old is considered one of the best English centre-backs yet to earn a cap for Gareth Southgate’s side.
The report claims both players are valued at around £14million. It remains to be seen if Lazio want to sign both players, or are looking for one of the two players to fill a void.
Newcastle fans will be fuming to hear that Lazio reckon their captain is worth just £14million. Yes, the former Nottingham Forest man has not been as good as he had in 2017-18, but he is worth more than that figure.
Indeed, the chances of Lazio luring the Newcastle captain to Italy is unlikely. Lascelles has a contract with the Toon until the summer of 2024. But Lazio may have a much better chance of signing Chambers.
On loan at Fulham last season, Chambers remains way down the pecking order under Unai Emery. He still has three years left on his contract, but at £14million, he could be a good signing for Lazio.
