Report: Ipswich set to beat Sunderland in race to sign 'fantastic' 23-year-old who's 'going places'
Ipswich Town reportedly look set to beat Sunderland in the race to sign Hayden Coulson.
Sunderland have also been linked with Coulson, but judging by the reports, the Black Cats have missed out on his signature.
As well as the Stadium of Light outfit, Luton have also been eyeing the 23-year-old, according to the Sunderland Echo.
“He has been fantastic”
Coulson broke into the Middlesbrough first team in 2019-20 following an impressive pre-season with Jonathan Woodgate.
“Hayden has been a standout performer throughout pre-season,” Woodgate told Gazette Live in July 2019.
“I tried to push him two seasons ago, when Tony Pulis got the job.
“We have a terrific environment for him now, he can play in a number of positions.
“He has been fantastic in training and in my opinion he will be going places.”
Boro handed Coulson a new contract in late 2019 and won the Boro Supporters’ Young Player of the Year award that season.
However, the academy graduate now appears surplus to requirements under Neil Warnock.
The left-back has fallen down the pecking order on Teesside and made just six Championship starts last season.
