According to a report by Calcio News 24, Inter Milan are to propose a swap deal to Arsenal involving Granit Xhaka and Christian Eriksen.

The Serie A outfit are keen to land the Gunners midfield maestro and are prepared to throw in the former Tottenham man as a sweetener.

Eriksen only signed for the Italian outfit in January but a torrid time of things has seen him fall out of favour.

Arsenal have been struggling for a creative spark during the early exchanges of their season – although a willingness to offload Xhaka seems unlikely.

The Switzerland captain has been backed by Mikel Arteta and his form has improved ten-fold under the Spaniard.

Xhaka has been at Arsenal since 2016 and he’s made 185 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 12 goals.

This season he has started five Premier League games and also captained the side twice in the Europa League.

He is paid £100,000-a-week at Arsenal and has a contract until 2023.

Eriksen has endured a torrid time in Milan since his £16.9 million transfer from Tottenham.

He has played 33 games but has scored just four goals and registered three assists in Antonio Conte’s team.

Inter are now prepared to offload the Denmark international and hope to get a deal done in January.

TBR View – Eriksen would be interesting for Arsenal but a deal seems unlikely

Eriksen’s record in the Premier League was pretty decent – albeit at Arsenal’s fierce rivals Tottenham.

The 28-year-old played 305 games for Spurs, scoring 69 goals and claiming 89 assists during a seven-year spell.

As much as the Gunners might fancy signing Eriksen, it does seem unlikely they’d be willing to offload Xhaka.

He has been one of Arsenal’s better players when called upon under Arteta and he seems an important figure.

The Gunners landing Eriksen would be pretty astonishing given his Tottenham links, although it’s perhaps not impossible.

It shouldn’t be at the expense of Xhaka though.
