Liverpool have been handed a potential boost to their hopes of keeping Gini Wijnaldum, with Inter Milan’s negotiations for the Dutchman coming to a ‘sudden halt’.
That is the claim from Calciomercato, who say that after months of trying to work on a deal for Wijnaldum, things have now ‘frozen’.
The Liverpool midfielder has continued to play a key role for the Reds this season. His contract is up in the summer and no new deal has been signed yet, despite his comments in midweek about being happy on Merseyside.

Wijnaldum earns a reported £90k-a-week at Anfield. It is believed Inter, as well as Barcelona, are the two clubs vying for his signature above everyone else in Europe.
However, Calciomercato’s latest claim will give Liverpool some hope that a deal can be struck between themselves and ‘Gini’.
Jurgen Klopp has made no secret of his desire to keep hold of the Dutch star. It remains to be seen, then, if Barcelona or Liverpool will try and capitalise on this stall from Inter.
TBR View: Wijnaldum still looks like leaving to be honest
The hard thing to get your head around with these sorts of negotiations is why hasn’t Wijnaldum already signed a new deal?
If he was intent on staying with Liverpool, surely he’d have just signed a contract with minimal fuss without hanging around all season and often batting away questions on his future.
Inter’s stalling is just a bump in the road it seems. There’s still every chance they come back in for Wijnaldum and it looks increasingly like Liverpool will lose their Champions League winning star.
