Report: Inter Milan want Alexandre Lacazette to replace Alexis Sanchez
According to reports from Italy, Inter Milan have made Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette their number one target for the January transfer window.
Gazzetta dello Sport make the claim, suggesting that Lacazette could even replace former Arsenal forward, Alexis Sanchez, in Inter’s squad. Sanchez has had a torrid time ever since leaving the Gunners. A spell with Man United failed miserably, and things haven’t really improved in Milan either.
Gazzetta, then, claim that Inter are keen to offload Sanchez and if they do, they’ll replace him with Lacazette. The experienced French striker has just 9 months to run on his £182k-a-week deal. The Italian side could well use that scenario to land him on the cheap.
Lacazette has been out of the picture a bit for the Gunners. Mikel Arteta has been using Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as his number nine of choice. Of course, that’s meant less playing time for a Lacazette, who Arteta had previously admitted made his teammates better.
The 30-year-old has scored 67 goals for Arsenal in just over 170 appearances. He has yet to score a league goal this term, although he has scored in both his appearances in the League Cup.
TBR’s View: Arsenal need to let Lacazette move on
Once again, Arsenal find themselves in a situation with a top earner at the club. Spotrac claims Lacazette is the club’s third highest earner. The only way he is staying put in London is if a similar contract is offered.
The Gunners, then, must use Inter’s interest and get Lacazette of the wage structure ASAP. Yes, he is a good striker with experience. But if they can get a fee in January, they have to press on.
Lacazette has not quite achieved what he should have done while being an Arsenal player. It’s time, then, for someone else to take up the mantle.
