Report: ‘Incredible’ Aston Villa player is still going to leave, even after Diego Carlos’ bad injury

Aston Villa are still planning to let Kortney Hause leave this summer, despite the serious injury suffered by Diego Carlos on Saturday.

A report from The Athletic suggests that Villa are still happy for Hause to go to Watford this summer, initially on loan but with a view to it becoming a permanent move.

Previous reports have suggested that Hause is now keen to leave Villa Park after falling down the pecking order, and the 27-year-old seems set to drop down to the Championship.

Hause only managed seven Premier League appearances last season, and wasn’t even included in Steven Gerrard’s matchday squad from March onwards.

The Athletic’s report suggests he’s set to play an under-21 match before leaving the club after having an operation on a knee injury.

Villa still planning of let Hause leave

Losing Diego Carlos to a long-term injury is a nightmare for Gerrard’s side, after believing they’d picked up one of the bargains of the summer when they signed him.

The 29-year-old was signed from Sevilla for £26m, and has already been made vice-captain by Gerrard.

If no new defender is brought in before the transfer window closes, then Gerrard will only have Tyrone Mings, Calum Chambers and Ezri Konsa to call on at centre-back until at least next year.

It’s been a tough start to the season for Mings after losing the captaincy and sitting out the opening game against Bournemouth, but he returned to Gerrard’s starting line-up against Everton.

Letting Hause leave still looks like the right decision for both the player and the club.

The defender is still unlikely to feature even with Diego Carlos’ injury, and would possibly be limiting a young player being exposed to the first-team environment by sitting on the bench.

Hause needs to return to playing regular football, and the competitive environment at Watford, could be the best place to do that.
