Report: If Leno leaves, Arsenal could sign 25-year-old goalkeeper who's 'one of the best in the world'
Arsenal could make a move for Andre Onana again if Bernd Leno is to leave the club, Goal.com report.
Replacement lined up?
Leno’s future at Arsenal has fallen into uncertainty, after the arrival of Aaron Ramsdale.
Leno remains Arsenal’s number one for the time being, but it is widely anticipated that it is just a case of when rather than if Ramsdale will replace him.
The German stopper has just two years remaining on his deal at Arsenal, and it could be that this current season is his final one at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are already looking at alternative goalkeeping options and it appears that Onana is one of those.
The Ajax man, who was described as ‘one of the best goalkeepers in the world’ by Cameroon teammate Eyong Enoh on Ajax Showtime, was linked with a move to North London over the summer but it didn’t materialise.
Part of the reason for that may have been his ban, which has caused him to miss the start of the season.
But next year that wouldn’t be an issue, which could make his signing more appealing for Arsenal.
If Onana was to arrive at the Gunners it would be interesting to see if he was favoured over Ramsdale as first choice.
Onana is more comfortable with the ball at his feet than Ramsdale, but may be quite as reliably with his handling.
