The Athletic claim Newcastle United could cash in on four players in the January window, with Rafa Benitez looking to bring one to Everton. They include Sean Longstaff, Dwight Gayle, Ciaran Clark and Jeff Hendrick.
The Toon are expected to bring in numerous players in January – certainly, improving their defensive options. The priority signings are Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier, and Lille centre-back Sven Botman.
But if Newcastle are to make signings, then some room might have to be made for the incoming additions. Gayle has a contract until 2024, but it is likely that the Toon will accept a small fee for the 32-year-old striker.
Clark has struggled of late and with defenders likely to come in, Ireland international Clark could make room. His Ireland teammate Hendrick has been struggling to get into the side under Toon boss Howe.
Longstaff is out of contract next summer – and while he has been excellent under Howe of late, he could go. It is believed Benitez would like to lure Longstaff to Everton in the January window, and is a long-term admirer.

Clark, Longstaff, Gayle and Hendrick: Newcastle should sell three
Newcastle do have a small-ish squad. So, Howe will not have to be too concerned about bloating the size of his squad with new signings. But there are fringe players, and their futures need to be decided in January.
Gayle needs to go and if a nominal offer comes in, Newcastle must accept. Clark, similarly, has been woeful at times this season and should be sold to the nearest bidder. Hendrick is a good back-up option, given his versatility.
But he is not good enough for Newcastle and if a decent proposal comes in, it should be considered. But Longstaff must be kept – a Newcastle lad, he has been excellent at times under Howe so far. He needs a new deal.
