Report identifies contract details West Ham may offer 29-year-old, if he becomes available

West Ham may reportedly make a contract offer to Phil Jones, if Manchester United decide to let him go.

According to Eurosport, Man United are considering offloading the 29-year-old on a free transfer to make squad room.

It is understood Hammers manager David Moyes is keen to reunite with the defender, but clubs are waiting to see how his future turns out.

The report explains West Ham would be willing to offer the centre-back a contract which would be low in terms of base money, if he becomes available. However, it would include “ enticing” add-ons depending on appearances made.

In addition, 90min lists Newcastle United, Everton, Southampton, Brighton, Crystal Palace and Burnley all as potential suitors for Man United’s forgotten man.

Jones hasn’t played in the first team since January 2020, so it would be a big ask for him to perform next season in the Premier League.

He’s someone though that does have 27 England caps under his belt. Also, he’s won six trophies with the Red Devils.

West Ham NEED a centre-back, but Phil Jones interest is dodgy

Jones, on his day, was a Premier League proven centre-half that excelled for a time at Old Trafford. However, he could never handle the big pressure put on his shoulders.

Moyes requires another option in the heart of defence going into the new season. They will have a shed load of fixtures due to the European games that lie ahead.

There may be talk of highly incentivised contract offer, but it’s too risky.

He’s not played football for 18 months and that’s why it seems unlikely he can make an impact straight away in London.
