There is good news for Tottenham Hotspur fans this evening and bad news for Everton in regards to Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Reports have been doing the rounds all day that Everton may have had a £25 million bid for the player accepted by current club Southampton.
However, the Liverpool ECHO are suggesting that is not the case. They highlight two reasons why Everton have not made such a bid.
Firstly, the midfielder has made it clear to Everton that he is not interested in a move to Goodison Park as he ‘has his heart set’ on working with Jose Mourinho at Tottenham.

Secondly, Everton do not intend to match the £25 million asking price Southampton are insistent upon. The Toffees value Hojjerg at £14 million, taking into account the face he is into the final year of his contract at St Mary’s, and were not willing to make up the £9 million difference.
There had been talk over potential player swaps but Everton appear to be out of the race whilst Tottenham are involved.
It is now over to Spurs and Daniel Levy to get a deal for Hojbjerg done.
However, like Everton, the North London side are probably reluctant to pay the £25 million fee for a player in Hojbjerg’s contract position.
It will be interesting to see how this develops, and whether Everton re-enter the race should Tottenham shy away.
But for now, it is advantage Tottenham in the hunt for the Danish international’s coveted signature this summer.
