Leeds United look set to miss out on Reece Brown. According to The Sun on Sunday (June 9th, page 59), Huddersfield Town are closing in on the signing of Brown.
The ex-Birmingham City midfielder is available on a free transfer this summer. His contract with Forest Green Rovers is expiring and he is likely to leave after their failed play-off campaign.
Two Championship sides, both based in Yorkshire, want Brown. Huddersfield and Leeds are going head-to-head for the midfielder. But the Terriers are set to win this race.
Brown played 52 times for Forest Green last season, scoring 11 goals and providing 15 assists from central midfield. He is also able to operate on the wing.
The ex-England U20 international joined Forest Green in 2017 to kick-start his career. Brown had only played 20 games for Birmingham’s first-team and spent time out on loan with Chesterfield and Notts County.
But after 94 appearances and a tally of 14 goals and 19 assists, he is ready to leave Forest Green. Brown’s next career step will be to test himself in a higher league.
The 23-year-old is closing in on a free transfer to Huddersfield. Jan Siewert wants to bolster his squad following their relegation from the Premier League.
Beating Yorkshire rivals Leeds to this transfer will please Huddersfield fans. And Leeds will need to look elsewhere if they still want a creative midfielder.
