Djed Spence may not have featured for Tottenham Hotspur during their dramatic win on Saturday, but Football London reports that he received one of the biggest ovations of the day from the home supporters when he started warming up.
Antonio Conte has certainly tested fans’ patience when it comes to the right wing-back role. He has three natural options, with Spence battling with Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal.

Emerson endured a tough first year in North London. Meanwhile, Doherty had a brilliant run towards the end of last season. And Spence arrived off the back of a superb campaign with Nottingham Forest.

Nevertheless, it has been the Brazilian who has spent most of the campaign in the role.

Unfortunately, Emerson has struggled to silence his doubters. He ticks a few boxes. He works incredibly hard for the side. But he seems to infuriate supporters with the lack of quality he brings in the final third.
Football London noted that Emerson’s substitution for Doherty was widely cheered on Saturday. But the report also suggests that Spence received a massive ovation from the fans when he started warming up in the second-half.
Ultimately, the 22-year-old was not used. But clearly, the fans are absolutely desperate for a change there.
It is bizarre that Conte will not put more faith in Spence. He has been on the pitch for a handful of minutes in the Premier League.
But he was bright in the Carabao Cup in midweek. He is also not that much younger than Emerson. And he would have been high on confidence after his year with Forest.
Obviously, Conte is the one who sees the three options in training everyday. And Spence will not be the finished article just yet.
But you do have to question how Spence can be so far behind Emerson that he has played so little.
If that really is the case, then why did Tottenham decide to sign him in the first place?
