Villarreal boss Unai Emery looks like he’s the favourite to take over at Newcastle United in the coming days.
The Magpies have been without a manager since they sacked Steve Bruce about two weeks ago. PIF and co have been on the lookout for a new boss, but no deal has materialised just yet.
Right from Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte to Eddie Howe and Steven Gerrard, plenty of names have been linked. However, it looks like Emery is the one who’s the favourite to land the job.
So, how are Newcastle United players reacting to rumours about the Villarreal boss?
How Newcastle players feel about Unai Emery
The Chronicle revealed yesterday that Newcastle United are confident that they can announce Emery as the new manager before Saturday’s game against Brighton and Hove Albion.
Newcastle players, who really enjoyed their time under the club’s last Spanish manager, are reportedly ‘excited’ about the prospect of Emery taking charge in the coming days.
The report quotes a source close to one key Newcastle player saying: “That would be top!” Another told the outlet that the players are hoping that the club can “bring a coach of international level to put together a great sports project.” Emery certainly checks that box.

TBR View:
Emery is a brilliant football manager, not many can debate that. Yes, his time at Arsenal wasn’t great, but his record over the last decade, which includes 10 major trophies, shows what he’s all about.
Newcastle United need a manager who can make every player tactically aware of their duties. That hasn’t been the case at the club for a while now, which has been one of the biggest reasons why they’ve struggled.
Emery’s philosophy revolves around structural and positional discipline. Every player in his side knows what they’re supposed to do when they don’t have possession. That’s exactly what Newcastle need right now and he would be a brilliant appointment.
