Liverpool remain outsiders to try and sign World Cup star Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain despite takeover rumours.
As the Athletic report, the Reds have been linked with Mbappe on and off in recent years, while FSG have been in control of the club.
But a swoop has always been unlikely because of the controlled approach to spending they have taken during their tenure.
Now, the club are up for sale and a new approach to transfers could be in place by the time the summer rolls around.

Liverpool unlikely to swoop for Mbappe
But the report claims that even if that is the case and Mbappe decides to leave PSG in the summer, Liverpool are not the most likely destination.
Manchester United have also been linked – and are also up for sale – but they are too unlikely to land the French superstar.
Real Madrid remains the most likely destination, although Mbappe turned them down in the summer just gone to extend his stay at PSG.
By that time, Mbappe could have won the World Cup for a second time and won the Golden Boot at the tournament in Qatar.
There is plenty to be done before we get to that point and France may well be on a collision course with England at the World Cup.
Mbappe is lighting up the World Cup but his overall financial package would be a stretch for Liverpool even if they get taken over.
