Report: How Leeds United’s players actually feel about Marcelo Bielsa potentially coming back

Leeds United’s current position after their 3-2 defeat against Fulham has raised the prospect of a comeback for Marcelo Bielsa.

It should be said that there are still plenty of barriers before this goes from being an idea to anything more concrete.

Jesse Marsch remains in the job and despite growing criticism from the fans, he appears to retain the support of the hierarchy who brought him in to replace Bielsa.

And a report by the Daily Mail claims that the Leeds dressing room would not want Bielsa back in any case.

Leeds players not keen on idea of Bielsa comeback

The report says that Leeds players want Marsch to do well, although they did of course have affection for Bielsa right until the end of his reign.

But in the dressing room, the players do not pine for Bielsa to come back in the same way as the fans do, because his tactics were so exhausting.

Moreover, Leeds were so leaky under Bielsa by the end and only looked on a downward trajectory at that time, and Marsch has a different approach around the training ground.

He talks far more to the players than Bielsa did and apparently feels inclusivity and communication are key to what he is trying to do.

Marsch allows the players more freedom and autonomy than Bielsa offered and it is not difficult to see how the Argentine’s approach may have become wearing in the end.

The Leeds board apparently understand all of this – which may not be as visible to the fans – and it is a factor behind their faith in Marsch.

It is also a huge reason why a comeback for Bielsa would be hugely unlikely at this stage, despite Leeds being in the relegation zone.

Next up for Leeds is a trip to Anfield, which produced a 6-0 defeat under Bielsa in the corresponding fixture last season, but the landscape at both clubs is different since then.
