A report from The Telegraph has suggested that Steve Hitchen was well-liked by Antonio Conte following the news that he has stepped down as Tottenham Hotspur’s director of technical performance.

Tottenham enjoyed an incredibly busy deadline day at the end of the January transfer window. Several players moved on, and a couple came in.

But it would appear that the changes have not stopped there. As noted by The Telegraph, Hitchen has left after around five years in the role.

It is claimed that he was frustrated over having a reduced role following the appointment of Fabio Paratici. The Italian has seemingly led the way on the transfer front in the last two windows at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Telegraph is one of the outlets reporting that Everton are now keen on appointing Hitchen as their director of football. Marcel Brands recently stood down from the role after a turbulent spell at Goodison Park.

It does appear that Tottenham may not look particularly different from the outside. Paratici, of course, remains in place in North London. The departure of Hitchen however, may come as a disappointment to Conte.

The 45-year-old was well-liked by Conte, according to The Telegraph.

Pressure now on Paratici as Hitchen leaves Tottenham

Hitchen appeared to divide supporters during his time at Tottenham. So many will probably not mind too much that he has moved on.

For Paratici meanwhile, the pressure perhaps increases ever so slightly. Obviously, it does appear that he looked to have the biggest say on transfers already.

But if Hitchen joins another Premier League rival and impresses, it may not be the best look for Tottenham. Newcastle and Leicester are also admirers of the retired defender.

Paratici has had hits and misses in the market since coming in. And the expectation has only increased with Conte now in place.
